The youths also appealed to the Ogun State Government to urgently develop the site into a standard tourist center capable of attracting visitors from within and outside the country.
Speaking during a community engagement held in Imeko, the youth spokesman described Amule Rock as a vital cultural landmark that represents the identity, traditions, and heritage of the Imeko people. According to them, the rock has served for generations as a symbol of unity, history, and environmental significance within the community, it's served as a place of refuge for the inhabitants of the city during the war between the Fulanis and Oyo Empire.
The youths emphasized that the establishment of a National Park at Amule Rock would promote the preservation of the cultural values, customs, and traditions of Imeko community while protecting the surrounding natural environment. They noted that proper development would also prevent environmental degradation and ensure sustainable use of the site.
They further urged the Ogun State Government to complement the Federal Government’s efforts by developing Amule Rock into a modern tourist center with essential infrastructure such as access roads, visitor facilities, security, and guided cultural exhibitions. According to the youths, such development would position Imeko as a major cultural tourism destination in Ogun State.
The youths explained that the proposed project would create employment opportunities, empower local residents, and boost economic activities in the area. They added that the initiative would also serve as an educational and research center where visitors can learn about the history, traditions, and cultural heritage of the Imeko people and their environment.
In their appeal, the Imeko youths expressed optimism that government intervention would not only preserve Amule Rock for future generations but also promote peaceful community development and cultural pride. They called on relevant federal and state agencies to conduct assessments and take necessary steps toward the realization of the project.
